Bridal Show 2015 Thoughts

03 February 2015

Hey there!  So, the Today’s Bride Show is over.  Thank goodness.  To all the brides, grooms, family and friends that came to our booth, thank you so much for stopping by!  You may not believe this, but I am so thankful to have had the chance to chat with you.  I mean that.  Planning a wedding is so much work.  You’ve got so many people to decide on who to work with and the show had so many options, that it means that much more to me that you took the time to stop and talk to us.

Yes, I am thankful the show is over.  My introverted personality meant that I literally fell asleep on Sunday around 8:30 because of how drained I was...On our friends couch, while watching the DVR’d Seahawks game.  People, I fell asleep while watching the Seahawks game!  Shame on me!  To all of my family reading this, I’m sorry.  You know I love our team.  Anyway, while I’m thankful it’s over, I’m also so incredibly thankful I participated in the show.  I met so many amazing people!  Not only couples, but fellow vendors.  There were so many fun booths too.  Do you want to see the details from mine?

Now it’s time to get back to regular life.
Blessings,

2015 Today’s Bride Show

13 January 2015

We’re doing a bridal show, people!  To be more specific, we’re a part of the 2015 Today’s Bride Show at the I-X Center this Saturday and Sunday, 1/18 - 1/19.

I’m both excited and nervous.  Excited because, hello, we’re going to be a part of something so big!  Nervous because, hello, we’re going to be a part of something so big!  My introverted personality is freaking out about talking to so many people.  I mean, why can’t I just hide behind my blog?  Why can’t I be some faceless person that you trust implicitly with capturing the memories of one of the most important moments in your life?  I kid, I kid.  I totally get it, which is why I decided to put myself out there and be a part of such a big bridal show.  Luckily, Scott will be right by my side and his extroverted personality is totally pumped.  He’s all, “We got this, Laura!”

Now that you know how nervous I am, come stop by my booth and give me a hug.  It doesn’t matter if we’ve never met.  Hugs make everything better.  We can chat about how overwhelmed you are about all the choices presented to you at the show, and I’ll hug you right back and tell you that you’ve got this.  That even though you have lots of choices to make when planning your wedding, it will be planned and over before you know it, and then you’ll be married to the love of your life.  I even have codes for FREE tickets to the show!  If you or anybody you know is looking for free tickets, please contact me.

Here’s a big virtual hug!  Even though I’m nervous, I can’t wait to meet you!

Blessings,

The Importance of Where You Put on Your Wedding Dress

21 May 2014

Recently, I had a conversation with one of my previous bride's that I found interesting.  Katrina and Shaun married last July, and after their wedding, Katrina's maid of honor booked me to photograph her wedding.  Kelly and James married in February at Sebring Mansion in Sebring, Ohio.  So, now that you know the back story, we'll go back to the conversation.

Katrina mentioned how much she loved Kelly's getting ready photos.  She was amazed at how the location you choose to get ready can make such a difference in your photos.  Now, this is not to say that Katrina doesn't love her getting ready photos.  I know I love them.  There's just a different feel to each girl's photos.

Kelly's photos are tranquil and quiet.  She didn't have a wedding party and you can feel the anticipation of the day in her photos.

Looking Our Best-Skin Care

29 March 2012

This post is really for the ladies.  When Scott and I were planning our wedding, I remember reading so many articles on skin care in wedding magazines.  We ladies want our faces to look amazing on our wedding day...okay maybe every dayJ  The problem I had with those articles is that I have extremely sensitive skin.  I am allergic to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which is a preservative that is in pretty much everything, and I have rosacea.  It’s not fun having a skin allergy.  Then, I found Mary Kay and my face problems became a thing of the past.

My good friend Erika is a consultant for Mary Kay and was nice enough to write a post on skin care for all of us ladies.  Isn’t she so cute?

Hello Everyone! I’m so excited to be a guest blogger for the wonderful Laura Mae! My name is Erika Leitgeb and I am a beauty consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics. As a Mary Kay consultant, I have the opportunity to, not only change the way someone looks and feels through teaching them proper skin care and makeup techniques, but I also have the opportunity to literally change lives. And nothing is more fulfilling than helping others succeed! Today, I am going to share with you five steps to good skin care and the importance of customized skin care.

The five simple steps to good skin care are cleanse, exfoliate, freshen, moisturize, and protect. It takes more than one product to achieve beautiful skin. As part of a daily skin care regimen, the five steps work together to reinforce the benefits of one another. They work with your skin to help keep it healthy and vibrant.

The first step is to cleanse. By cleansing your skin, you are removing makeup, dirt, germs, environmental pollutants, and any other impurities that are sitting on your face. You should wash your face every morning and night. Every time you forget you cleanse, your face ages about seventeen days! You may think “Oh that’s not so bad,” but one day you’ll see a fine line or wrinkle on your face that wasn’t there a few days ago. And then you’ll say “Maybe Erika was right!”

The second step is to exfoliate. Exfoliating helps remove that stubborn layer of dead skin that would not come off by simply cleansing your face. This immediately energizes the skin to reveal a more radiant, healthy looking complexion. It also reduces the appearance of pores. After you do it, your skin feels so soft. It’s amazing!

Next, is to freshen you face. Most often, this comes in a mist form. I would recommend spraying it onto a cotton ball. You want to rub this all over your face, paying particular attention to around your nose, eyebrows, and hair line. Sometimes we forget to cleanse those areas well, so the freshener will help pick up that leftover dirt. It also improves skin texture, which helps it look more healthy and radiant.

The fourth step is to moisturize. It is so important to moisturize your skin right after you wash it to prevent the skin from drying out. The key to younger looking skin is to keep it hydrated. It is also equally important to find a moisturizer that is specialized for your skin type. Even if you have oily skin, you want to find a moisturizer that gives you balanced hydration while controlling excess oil throughout the day.

The final step to good skin care is to protect your skin. Even in the dead of winter, if the sun is out, your skin is at risk. Companies are beginning to make moisturizers that contain SPF, which is great because you can do two skin care steps at once. If you love being outdoors and are worried about aging, I would recommend finding a product that contains a full spectrum sunscreen. Which means it protects against UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are what age you and UVB rays are what burn you.

The last thing I want to talk about is the importance of customized skin care. Everyone’s skin is different and not every skin care product will be the right product to give your skin what it needs. There are three skin types: normal, dry, and oily. Most of us know what our skin type is, but I will explain each one and the products you should use.

Dry Skin- skin feels tight, uncomfortable, itchy, chapped, small pores. Find products that offer at least 10 hours of hydration.
Oily Skin- greasy, oily, shiny, huge pores. You can’t wait to wash your face. Find products that control shine and excess oil throughout the day.

Normal Skin- skin feels smooth, neither shiny nor dry, some visible pores on cheeks, nose, and forehead. Look for products that keep skin balanced.

Mary Kay makes skin care products for every skin type and products to complete the five steps to good skin. It may seem hard at first to remember to complete these five steps every day, but studies have shown that if you do something for 21 consecutive day, it will become a habit. So make little notes and post them in your bedroom or bathroom, reminding yourself to take care of your skin. With Mary Kay products, you will see a difference in you skin within three day, three weeks, and in three months. I can promise you that you’ll love your skin!

If you would like to sample any Mary Kay skin care or makeup products, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I’d love to hear from you!
